If there is anything that Calvary Chapel prides itself in it’s in the fact that it is non-denominational. An excerpt from a popular Calvary Chapel website states, “Calvary Chapel is a non-denominational church movement focused on the inerrancy of the Bible and the expository teaching from Genesis to Revelation.” From a statement of faith found on many of their sites, “nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only their over emphasis of the doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the Body of Christ.”

An excerpt from a popular Calvary Chapel website states, “Calvary Chapel is a non-denominational church movement focused on the inerrancy of the Bible and the expository teaching from Genesis to Revelation.” From a statement of faith found on many of their sites, “nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only their over emphasis of the doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the Body of Christ.”. In the book “Calvary Chapel Distinctives” Chuck Smith states, “You know the beautiful thing about being called Calvary Chapel?. 49, 50).” In a consumer driven world it is sad that churches expect and encourage men to make a choice for a church based on externals (music, pep, relevance, simplicity, comedy, lax dress-code, youth, etc…) rather than by what they believe the bible says.. There is an acceptable degree of consumerism by which I must find a church in this fallen world and it is only in confessional churches where I have been handed material upon material to read concerning the one thing that counts… DOCTRINE.. Too many churches are aiming at doctrinal ambiguity and hoping to attract people by their atmosphere, cool worship, funny pastor, amneties, young crowd, etc…. As far as Calvary Chapel is concerned: It is hypocritical for a church that totes unity through anti-doctrinal means to have been formed by a man who found a subjective distaste for his original form of church (doctrine in the so-called ‘non-essentials’) and decided now, with his finite experience, that he will create his own sect that meets these new needs.. It is this individualistic, non-submissive, consumer mentality that has permeated the “laymen” and it is precisely for the sake of unity that all men should abandon their modernistic churches and return to historic Christianity.. If you have sat under Calvary Chapel teaching long enough you have heard the joke, “you don’t need to go to cemetery, I mean seminary, to become a Pastor.” Studious, intellectual study of the scriptures, theology or anything is not only frowned upon, it’s laughed at…. But place a rose in the hand of Luther Burbank, and without losing any of his simple, child-like wonder and appreciation for its beauty, he could devote a lifetime exploring its profound complexity… Some Christians harbor the notion that doctrine divides people.. The churches withdrew from intellectual encounters with the secular world, gave up the idea that religion is a part of the whole life of intellectual experience, and often abandoned the field of rational studies on the assumption that they were the natural province of science alone.. By 1853 an outstanding clergyman complained that there was “an impression, somewhat general, that an intellectual clergyman is deficient in piety, and that an eminently pious minister is deficient in intellect.”‘ Horton comments, “By the time of the Second Awakening (beginning in the last quarter of the eighteenth century through first quarter of the nineteenth), the existential act of faith replaced the objective content of faith in popular revivals.. ‘The idea of a historical continuity in the life of the Church,’ says Hofstadter, ‘ carries no weight whatever for the sect consciousness.’ In fact, ‘since there need be only a shadow of confessional unity in the denominations, the rational discussion of theological issues- in the past a great source of intellectual discipline in the churches- came to be regarded as a distraction, as a divisive force.. This is how, as I will write in the future, a church such as Calvary Chapel can pride itself in “teaching through the bible” yet miss the serious implications of the gospel (see: Priority of the Word ).. This is why you find such inconsistency in a preachers understanding of the gospel from Calvary Chapel to Calvary Chapel.. Some teach a false man-centered gospel and others, closer to the truth, teach a /near/ accurate God-centered gospel (yes there are some faithful men in Calvary Chapel).

Is Calvary Chapel neither Calvinist nor Arminian?

Calvary Chapels have been known for claiming to ride the fence in between Arminianism and Calvinism, in order to avoid division over such an issue.. Calvary Chapel’s official position on Calvinism, written in a booklet by Chuck Smith entitled Calvinism, Arminianism, and the Word of God: A Calvary Chapel Perspective , attempts to straddle the fence on the debate:. Leaving many people happy about the unity they can share in their local Calvary Chapel between those who may hold to the Arminian doctrines and those who may hold to Calvinistic doctrines.. Calvary Chapel is inherently Arminian in theology and are not welcoming to their Calvinistic brothers as Chuck Smith claimed in Calvary Chapel’s official position.. Chuck Smith gives a 5-point statement explaining what Calvary Chapel believes about the doctrines of grace, and in so doing, indirectly points Calvary Chapel to Arminian theology.. Here is a brief comparison of Calvary Chapel’s official perspective and the 5 Articles of the Remonstrance which characterize Arminian theology.. Article 1 Calvary Chapel’s official stance on election is similar to, and in agreement with, that of the Arminian Articles, it says,. “That God, by an eternal, unchangeable purpose in Jesus Christ, his Son, before the foundation of the world, hath determined, out of the fallen, sinful race of men, to save in Christ, for Christ's sake, and through Christ, those who, through the grace of the Holy Ghost, shall believe on this his Son Jesus,”. Article 4 The grace of the Arminian theology is also reflected in Calvary Chapel’s official position,. Similarly, Article 5 and Calvary Chapel both end on more uncertainty considering the perseverance of the saints, Calvary Chapel asks,. The anti-Calvinist agenda of Calvary Chapel is coupled with, and propelled by, the common slaughter of the Calvinistic view in no attempt to represent what the reformed view actually says.. What makes the Calvary Chapel position different is that the Calvinist is lured in with the ideal utopian promise of welcoming both sides, and then stabbed in the back by the anti-calvinist Calvary Chapel agenda.. Calvary Chapel should change their doctrinal claims to embrace Arminian doctrines in order to avoid the abuse, division, and marginalization that has arisen.

“Speaking in tongues is demonic.” “Speaking in tongues is the evidence of Spirit baptism.” “The gift of prophecy ceased in the life of the church...

“The gift of prophecy ceased in the life of the church with the death of the last foundational apostle.”. Defining Cessationism The essential claim of cessationism is that there are certain gifts or activities (charismata) of the Holy Spirit mentioned in Scripture that are not available or necessary for the church today.. Common Arguments for Cessationism There are numerous points of argumentation offered in support of the cessationist position.. After the founding of the church and formulation of the completed canon, the roles of apostles and prophets supposedly passed from the life of the church, along with many other manifestations and callings of the Holy Spirit.. Dr. John MacArthur, noted above as one of the most avid and aggressive proponents of cessationism, often pushes this point in support of his view.. The Absence of Modern Experience Fifth, there is the argument from the reality that many faithful followers of Jesus do not contemporarily experience the so-called charismata (i.e. speaking in tongues, miracles, healing, prophesying, etc.).. The cessationist reasons, if these gifts are intended to be the experience of the church today, why would God withhold them from so many of His people?

We believe that there is one living and true GOD, eternally existing in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory; that this triune God created all, upholds all, and governs all things. (Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; John 10:30; Hebrews 9:14)

Trinity We believe that there is one living and true GOD, eternally existing in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory; that this triune God created all, upholds all, and governs all things.. The Word of God We believe that the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, fully inspired without error in the original manuscripts, and the infallible rule of faith and practice.. (Isaiah 28:13; Nehemiah 8:8; John 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12; 1 Peter 1:23-25; 2 Peter 1:21). God the Father We believe in the person of God the Father, an Infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayer; and that He saves from sin and death all those who come to Him through Jesus Christ.. Jesus Christ We believe in the person of Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit.. (Isaiah 7:14; Micah 5:2; Matthew 1:23; Mark 16:19; Luke 1:34-35; John 1:1-2, 8:58, 11:25; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Hebrews 1:8; 1 John 1:2; Revelation 1:8). The Holy Spirit We believe in the person of the Holy Spirit, Who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify and empower for ministry all who believe in Christ.. (Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 3:18; John 16:8-11; Romans 15:13,16; Hebrews 9:14). Sin and Repentance We believe that all people are sinners by nature and, therefore, are under condemnation; that God regenerates based upon faith by the Holy Spirit, those who repent of their sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord.. (Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26). Baptism of the Holy Spirit We believe also in the laying on of hands for the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the ordination of pastors, elders, and deacons, and for the receiving of the perpetuity of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.. The Second Coming of Jesus Christ We believe in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ which is His personal, visible return to earth and the establishment of His millennial kingdom, in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment and eternal blessing of the righteous and endless suffering of the wicked.. Literal Heaven and Hell We believe in a literal Heaven and a literal Hell and that all those who place their faith, hope and trust in Jesus Christ will spend eternity in Heaven with the Lord, while those who reject Jesus’ free gift of salvation will spend eternity separated from the Lord.. Marriage We believe that marriage is exclusively the legal union of one genetic male and one genetic female sanctioned by the state and evidenced by a marriage ceremony.. For this reason homosexuality, and all other “sexual preferences” or “orientations” are unnatural, sinful, and unacceptable to God (1 Corinthians 6:9-11; 1 Timothy 1:9-11).

1)      We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory; that this triune God created all, upholds all, and governs all things (Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 44:8, 48:16; Matthew 28:19-20; John 10:30; Hebrews 1:3).

We believe that the Spirit of God works through the Word of God in the hearts of the people of God.. Here is the simplicity that I minister and have learned by watching Pastor Chuck serve the Lord:. There is salvation in no other name than the name of Jesus (John 14:6; Acts 4:12); and the gospel of Jesus is the power of God for salvation to all who hear and believe (Rom.. I don’t deserve the blessing that He bestows daily on my life.. 1 Timothy 1-3 sets out four qualifications for elders and pastors: moral character, giftedness to teach, divine calling, and male gender.. In Calvary Chapel we have been blessed with a wonderful example of male leadership.. He has called us, commissioned us, and promised to equip us (Acts 1:8).. One of the things the Lord has been pleased to bless in Calvary Chapel is its emphasis upon servant leadership.. Paul said that pastors are to be “examples to the believers” (1 Ti 4:12), because the Word of God is lived out amongst people, and pastors of all people are “walking sermons” before the world, and the churches that they lead.. Because of this, people could be ‘real’ with Jesus.. Through relationships Jesus discipled the 12, and with the help of the Spirit we seek to do the same.. Ever since those early days, Calvary Chapel pastors have put an emphasis on reaching the next generation.. To this day, we hold the deep conviction that God has a special place in His heart for young people, from children right into the young adult years.

Calvary Chapel Cincinnati has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. Our vision is to see people know Jesus, follow Jesus and live for Jesus. We exist to shine the light of the gospel into a world blinded by sin that all might discover the promise of life and liberty that is in Christ Jesus.  (Ephesians 4:11-16)  We believe that the true basis of Christian fellowship is Christ’s agape love, which is greater than any differences we possess, and without which we have no right to claim ourselves as Christians. (1 Corinthians 13; Philippians 1:9-11; Ephesians 3:17-19)

We believe the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity, who convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment.. We believe that the Holy Spirit regenerates and indwells every believer in Jesus Christ and that He is an abiding helper, teacher and guide empowering all believers for ministry. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and the exercise of all Biblical gifts of the Spirit according to the instructions given to us in 1 Corinthians 12-14.. [Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 3:18; John 14:16-17; John 16:8-11; Romans 8:26; Romans 15:13, 16; Hebrews 9:14]. We believe there is one living and personal God who exists eternally in three distinct Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power, authority, and glory.. [Genesis 1:1; 1 John 5:7; Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 9:6; Isaiah 44:8; Matthew 28:19-20; John 10:30]. We believe that mankind was created in the image of God, sinned, and thereby incurred not only physical death, but spiritual death, which is separation from God.. We believe that all human beings are born with a sinful nature and are responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.. When a person repents of sin and accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord, trusting Him to save, that person is immediately born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit, all his/her sins are forgiven, and that person becomes a child of God.. [Genesis 1:27; Romans 3:23; Colossians 2:13; Ephesians 4:18; Romans 5:12]

Calvary Chapel; once a bible teaching church has compromised and embraced apostates and heretics like Rick Warren, Hillsong, catholics & Joel Osteen

Calvary Chapel began with 25 people and has blossomed into a network of 1700 independent Calvary Chapels.. By 1968, Frisbee was a leader within the Calvary Chapel movement, and by 1971 the Jesus Movement was well underway; influencing pop culture to the extent that Elton John made reference to “Jesus freaks” in his song Tiny Dancer.. Calvary Chapel Kendall’s Pedro Garcia quietly made his church a “Hillsong Family” church, submitting to their heretical network.. Calvary Chapel Golden Spring’s pastor Raul Ries has allowed his degenerate son, Ryan, to not only serve in the church (ah… shameless nepotism), but has left his heretical endorsements unaddressed.. I left Calvary Chapel in 2012, but given my association with Sam, thought it fit to warn him of Levi Lusko’s heretical associations, given that Calvary still hosts Levi, and promotes his material.. Here is what Calvary Chapel’s bible study “teacher” said to me.. “..to judge Levi Lusko as spiritually “dangerous” simply because you deemed Steven Furtick, Carl Lentz, John Piper, Beth Moore, Christine Caine, Rick Warren, Louie Giglio, Joyce Meyer, Joel Osteen and Brian Houston as dangerous.. “I encourage you to look at the extremely fruitful ministries of Steven Furtick, Carl Lentz, John Piper, Beth Moore, Christine Caine, Rick Warren, Louie Giglio, Joyce Meyer, Joel Osteen and Brian Houston.”. Calvary Chapel is in the midst of a split, as Brian Broderson resigned from the Calvary Chapel Association.
